Everyone loves spaghetti

In commentary, commercials, stupid videos, Uncategorized, Videos, viral videos on January 8, 2010 at 4:55 pm

Every once in a while I will stumble upon a video that would be the a great foundation for a commercial video (or an entire campaign.)

Viral commercial spaghetti Joeys Pasta

Everyone loves spaghetti.  Everyone loves pets. Let’s put it together.

Take a watch of this video. Take 3 “watches” of the video.  It’s simple. Entertaining.  The sound of the dog chomping the spaghetti is great.  The spaghetti is the center of the attention.  There’s something special and real about the video. With a little editing, adding a brand image/message at the end, and  the proper viral seeding, this could be an awsome campaign.

Great idea for a Heinz video commercial – well most of it

In commercials, Uncategorized, Videos, viral videos on December 30, 2009 at 4:01 pm

This was a video creator’s submission to a Heinz contest. This video was banned for “reasons”.

Overall the video is a brilliant concept.

Heinz has been with us for years… through childhood, school, and now. The concept of inserting the Heinz product into historical or semi-historical events is fantastic. (It did have a Forest Gump feel to it.)

The family dinner, the astronaut on the moon,   etc… were great scenes, warm and fuzzy, and were good for the brand.

I imagine the scenes with the African Americans getting hosed, Hitler in Paris, starving children, massacres, etc… were probably great to get views with shock value, but were incompatible with the brand. It seems obvious that Heinz would not approve those scenes.

The producer did create an excellent concept and video. If he/she really wanted to win the contest, additional positive scenes such as JFK at his inauguration, many World Series celebrations, the 1980 US Olympic Hockey team winning the Gold Medal, etc… could have won the him/her the contest.

On the other hand, the producer does remind us of the good and bad times that we go through…

Oreo – Coming Home Moment

In commercials, Uncategorized, Videos, viral videos on December 21, 2009 at 5:58 pm

The Oreo – Coming Home Moment is a touching and effective use of video.

The message is clear and the video is entertaining.  Like good commercials, the product, the Oreo, is in center stage.  The military personnel make it timely. The end of the commercial emphasizes the brand and our love of the brand.

I really enjoyed the commercial. The emotional interaction reminded me of that 30 year old Coca Cola commercial  with Mean Joe Green of the NFL’s Pittburgh Steelers.

And a 30 year old Coca Cola commercial…

Here’s to Stains, by Dr. Seuss? No.

In commercials, flash, Uncategorized, Videos, viral videos on December 20, 2009 at 6:35 pm

Phil Geye came up with clean, simple, and entertaining commercial for Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.

“Here’s to Stains” sounds like a commercial made by Dr. Seuss.  It tells a story. Rhymes. Entertains.

Phil opens the video with an attractive woman holding a glass of red wine.  He visually shows many items that cause difficult stains. He  tells the story of Stains in a poem and let’s us know that Mr. Clean Magic Eraser will handle these stains.

Why are we celebrating these stains?  Because if you ‘live’, stains will naturally occur.  But now we have Mr. Clean’s Magic Eraser.  [ Note to parents:  Life lesson. Don’t be so quick to yell at the kids for stains!]

This is an excellent video that gets across the the benefits of the product, is entertaining, and tells a nice story.

You can’t buy this – Becky Quick of CNBC’s Squawk Box complains about AT&T

In commentary, commercials, flash, Uncategorized, Videos, viral videos on December 17, 2009 at 5:40 pm

Shout out to Verizon: If you can get this video to go viral, legally that is, it would be unbelievable.

Becky Quick, Warren Buffett’s favorite gal, a well respected woman, complained about her AT&T wireless service on  Squawk Box this morning.  She seemed to have gotten emotional and went into how her signal always drops on her BlackBerry. Anyone who was listening would definitely think twice before subscribing to AT& T.

You could not buy this type of advertising or product placement!

If Verizon can find a way to use this video…

Click on the picture below and fast forward the video to the 3:00 point if you want to hear Becky Quick’s RANT about AT&T.

Evian – Roller Babies goes viral

In commercials, flash, funny videos, Uncategorized, Videos, viral videos on December 16, 2009 at 10:18 pm

The Evian Roller Babies video is great. It captures your attention. It is very entertaining. The music is appropriate but probably works better for people ages 35 and over.  Not sure how much product it sells but being online, I would imagine most people will replay it a few times.  (I watched it 3 times.  I believe I had seen it on tv once.)  Not surprised at all this went viral.

Beauty Pressure commercial by Dove – young girls’ self images / self-esteem

In commercials, political videos, psa, Uncategorized, Videos, viral videos on December 12, 2009 at 7:17 pm

This ‘Dove Film’ is meant to show the pressures on young girls/women to fit that thin, big breasted, hot stereotype.  Everywhere you look, you see these images and it definitely has an affect on our youth.

This video is excellent in many respects.  The content, images, and clips are right on. The music and sound effects are great. The transitions and timing are excellent. They made me uncomfortable but not uncomfortable-enough to stop watching. The first time I watched the video, I remembered the goal and the organization.  Well done.

Kudos to all involved in this film…

Thank you to The Dove Self-Esteem Fund but we need this in the United States also!

Drinking With Bob – building a brand and being rewarded

In commentary, flash, funny videos, political videos, stupid videos, Uncategorized, Videos, viral videos on December 12, 2009 at 4:15 pm

Drinking With Bob is interesting example of building an online brand that is “real” and not afraid to take a stand.

From DrinkingWithBob.com:

Bob Thompson a.k.a. Drinking With Bob is a comic and TV personality from New York City. Based in Queens, Bob performs his comedy routines, rants and original music in clubs and bars throughout much of the Metropolitan area. He also produces, writes and stars in his own TV show called ‘Drinking With Bob’ on Queens Public Access. The show has been airing for 7 years and has gained a legion of loyal and devoted cult fans who tune in each week to experience the RANTS , see the comic sketches and hear music.

I enjoy Bob’s videos. I don’t always agree with them, but I do, through the screaming and yelling,  listen to what he is saying. Consistency. Bob is Bob.

Through the years he has shown to be sincere and real.  He has build his brand and leveraged it into a gig on WAC Radio in NY.

Congratulations Bob.  Stay real.

MasterCard – Priceless – Great example – Give him a blow…

This is a fantastic example of an online video commercial that went viral.  MasterCard and their agency are brilliant.  They took a great broadcast concept and successfully went edgy. Kudos to all involved.

I had not heard of Stride Gum before this video.  I guess it was money well spent. Definitely outside the box at the time. Watch.
